2026 Boomtown 48 Hour Film Race

RACE RULES

• The 48 Hour Film Race is open to all ages.

• Teams may consist of any number of people.

• It is free to participate in the Boomtown 48 Hour Film Race.

• At the beginning of the race, a representative of each team must come forward, sign-in with a team name and spin the wheel to receive their genre.
• A wild card element (such as a prop or line of dialogue) for all teams to incorporate into their films will be announced at the race kick-off event.

• All materials (footage, music, etc.) used during the race should be original, or used with the permission of the owner.
  (Note: Music that was donated by local bands for Boomtown’s Music Video Challenge is also available for any team to use in their 48 Hr. Film Race entry. You can access that collection of donated music at: https://tinyurl.com/boommusic25 )

• Films may have a maximum run time of 4 minutes, including credits.

• The deadline to turn in films is 48 hours after the last team signs in and receives their genre at the race kick-off. (This will put the deadline around 7:30 PM on Sunday, January 25.)

• Films must be submitted to our e-mail address: boomtownfest@gmail.com. Remember to state your team name when you submit your film. Your official finish time will be when your film arrives in our inbox. You may use whichever digital delivery service you prefer, including uploading your video to a Google Drive folder and then sharing the link. However, we recommend WeTransfer.com, which is free, has a 2gb size limit and timestamped confirmation emails letting you know that your film has been downloaded. (Note: If you use WeTransfer, there is now an option to set how long the download link will stay active. It’s strongly recommended that you select the maximum duration, which is currently 3 days for a free account.)

• Late submission, ignoring assigned genre/element, overlong film run time or unauthorized use of copyrighted materials will negatively impact your film during judging.

• The first 13 films to cross the finish line will be screened at the Jefferson Theatre on Saturday, February 21st during the 2026 Boomtown Film & Music Festival. 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place winners will be announced during the festival’s awards ceremony. (Note that participation in the 48 Hr. Film Race does not include free entry to the Boomtown Film & Music Festival.)
